Not pictured: I saw the David Hockney piece at Aviva Studios. It’s a video essay projected on four walls and the floor, and uses this format to argue for a way of seeing beyond single point perspective. A good example of immersive work that connects form with content!
Today Alexis Bushnell shared jaz-michael king’s mastodon-near.me, which arranges local Mastodon instances on a map. I feel some bittersweet validation, as no city or region in the North of England is represented - could addressing this gap help local communities to organise, post-enshittification?

I knew the way to go to see no one at all. From the pharmacy adjacent to the surgery where my parents worked as general practitioners for 30 years—in which my surname called at the counter could not but turn heads—I took the paper bag of mood stabilisers and antipsychotics, which were not helping, and trailed my slow feet beyond the pale of the village and into the trees.

Yesterday was my graduation ceremony, a year after my Viva and just over ten years after I enrolled. I welled up a little when the Vice Chancellor said that a PhD means you have “done something that nobody else has ever done before”.
