Many people are having trouble getting to sleep at the moment, and no wonder: the world looks like a dark place right now and anxiety is understandable. There are problems in the world that self-care simply cannot even put a dent into, but in order to fight those problems we do need to find ways to heal.

This feels like a strange time to promote a charity art project, but I don’t want to hold back for too long from getting the word out about the Action for Trans Health bundle. The importance of fighting for humane and democratic access to transgender health has not diminished, and I suspect that much of the work included in the bundle is exactly the kind of positive stuff that people might need right now.

Waiting for Sleep

A game made as part of the One Day Jam that teaches you about how to maintain a healthy sleep pattern. It asks you some questions about your lifestyle and state of mind, and feeds back a simulation of what your sleep experience is likely to be like. I found it unnervingly accurate.

Recovery

A game about helping a teen to heal, both emotionally and physically. It comes with a lot of trigger warnings, and might not be recommendable to anyone who is currently in crisis, but it provides some important lessons about how to help each other through a period of time that is very hard on many people's mental health.

The Action for Trans Health Student Activism Guide

Provides helpful guidance on how to campaign for trans rights in educational institutions, empowering you to fight for change during times of austerity. Although it is in some ways bound to be UK-specific, it should also have some transferrable lessons for everyone.

All of these are available as part of the Action for Trans Health bundle, a time-limited opportunity to pay what you can for 17 items and raise money to help transgender people.

If you’re able to put a little bit of money in for this fundraising bundle to help trans people, then playing through the games included in the bundle might be a good act of self-care in multiple senses of the term: both self-soothing with joyful little art objects, and self-educating to be better able to create change in the world.
