A short film that I made at the beginning of this year, Vanishing Point, is being screened at NEoN Digital Arts Festival in Dundee later this week. They might also be hosting an online live screening of all the short films - check the website for details. There are other online aspects of the festival that are worth checking out if you can’t make it up to Scotland.

I have a lot of affection for the digital arts goings-on in Dundee, and NEoN looks like a fantastic festival - I would absolutely be there if I could!

Vanishing Point: A Visual Essay (2017), Zoyander Street (5:03)

Created for the Visual Essay Jam, an event organized to explore alternative methods of games criticism, this video essay explores the history of depictions of landscape and perspective in videogames, and how they were informed by both the rise and fall of Enlightenment philosophies. Tying together imagery from sources as varied as early Atari games like Night Driver, recent indie rhythm titles like Thumper, and excerpts from essays on art criticism and philosophy, Vanishing Point is a deep dive into how digital visual aesthetics are informed by centuries of approaches to understanding vision.
